I can't believe that I'm admitting this, but Fall 2002 is FINALLY on the horizon. I'm mean this in the trend/fashion sense, not a climate change...okay. I'm not quite through with my unemployment tan, dog days and the happy hour routines. Keep it coming... We've been excited to see what's next, what's new. Not much. Summer/Spring 2002 gets a face lift for fall, and that's okay with us. 2002 has been fresh, sexy and multicultural. What I learned this summer...The usual disclaimers apply-all opinions are subjective and we could be, but will not be, accountable to anyone else's opinion but our own. ROAD TRIP REPORT Portland. Great place to road trip and shop. Our favorite find...3 Monkeys on NW 23rd. An H&M for the Pacific Northwest. Their own label with trendy looks and no guilt for the amount of money you have spent on "the latest look." Another store that intrigued us enough to walk into was mimi & lena...the right brands for right now including your standard 7 Jeans and Michael Stars...(have to remember) The whole area is just plain fun...shi shi drinks while sitting outside, Torrefozione Coffee and of course, the shopping...honorable mentions to Zelda's Shoe Bar. Vegas is too air-conditioned controlled. I wore my sweater the entire time. Santa Barbara is way too expensive and Mexico...don't think your going to get a bargain by picking things up there...don't even worry about clothes...pack nothing, go naked. On a local level...Stay Chic for Cheap Fremont Fair vendors. Cheap and unique...check out...Alicia Wullum, Glamgarb by Gunlis, Ingenue, Moksha... Broadway is ALIVE. Yeehaw. Perfect for shopping the trends without a serious outlay of cash...hey fellas this goes for you too. Here is a rundown on a few of our favorites.

sexy art, a must see. Places to Check out...

Shows: Element. My favorite to date. Madina Vadace (206.985.8152), with her sexy lace dresses. Nice show, fresh, and modern with a great crop of well seasoned designers. The hair and makeup was right on, styling for each line was impressive. Good job. The models looked hot! Arena. I was twelve again, sitting in the high school gym. The MC's insulted my intelligence, which was not that high due to the pre-funk elixirs beforehand. Good thing. I had to argue a drink out of my waitress, even though I had a drink ticket. I need to mention that her black wide net fishnets with her tattoos were majorly hot. Maybe I was too old for this show? I'm rambling... Arena, a high percentage of fashion designers fresh out of school. Constructive feedback. Congrats to them, but they need to learn how to use a streamer, cut threads and not buy cheap fabric and thread...the seams are a dead giveaway. I wonder where my hard earned dollars were spent? They must have made bank, the gymnasium was full. It's sad when nonprofits have to take a back seat. This show has the potential and the draw for national attention. I think it sent a message alright. Back in the day, I am told, it seemed larger than life. Hopefully in our lifetime it will be once again. I don't want to harsh out on this event...so here are a few good moments...Rita Wilson, nice hair and makeup...Mariah Elliot's energy in design...Kena Peay..nice choregraphy. Cheri Ellis kicked ass. And the last designer ~ All the black...and the cat fight with blood. Nice end. Enough said. Water. Fire. Earth. I have to say, I had great time at the Water and Fire events. All nonprofit. Entertaining, eclectic, not afraid to be different, take risks and overall ambitious. Music, performance, fashion and A CAUSE. Catch one. DJ
SCENE * Baltic Room Monday & Saturday nights...India's Bollywood is the official music trend theme in Seattle...hot in Europe for the last several years, Seattle has finally honored another ethnic music scene beyond our hippie roots favorite, Reggae...The DJ spins great danceable tunes that make you want to shake your Bungra Booty...my only comment - such a bummer to wait for the next song. *
Darek Mazzone...an homage to the great
Darek who has hosted the WOPOP show on KEXP for the last ten
years. A pioneer and advocate for world music, Darek has given hope
to those of us who know there is a bigger world out there. With La
Movida, Darek spices things up Latin style, but don't worry-he can
pull music out from any corner of the world...all you have to do is
ask and in his quiet way he will send you off ...check out his ultra
ego, Flock of DJ "Creme" on Thursday nights
at The Baltic Room...80s all the way with theme nights...it
kicked off with an opening night of all Prince...made me want to line
my eyes...great added touch with visuals by up and coming multi-media
gurus of Funky Photons. 80s artists changing weekly. I recently heard
this 80s groove team is spinning at other venues around town. We strongly recommend picking up Minty. The local experts. They list it all. We heart Minty. Fall 2002 ~ Fuck the Basics already THE
CLUTCH
is back...tops that BARE YOUR BOOBS... SUPERSIZED ACCESSORIES:
FACES TO TAKE TO PLACES: I am shocked by a brief cruise down the makeup counter and aisles....I can not believe what the main market is pushing right now...Buffy the Vampire Slayer, an Oscar winner, and a destiny child. Ehgads. Good thing we have minds of our own. Support your local shops that carry make-up...Burnt Sugar, Olivine and many of your hair salons and spas. Tousled, layered, full hair with golden chunky highlights that brighten your face during the grey weather. Two types of makeup each on opposite ends: Glossy, but a bit more matte, colored lips, soft spoken eye lids and rosy cheeks, vs. Gothic dark-lined eyes, bare down on the lips and cheeks. We like them both. Recommendations: Fresh, Bloom, Loreal Rouge Pulp, Longcils Boncza Mascara from Paris (that is all they do...Mascara...they do it right...find it at Burnt Sugar). Lip Venom makes lips tingle and full. Find it at Olivine. SAY FELLAS... Love your button down shirts with a vintage neck tie. So cute. Slouchy thin-wale cords. Fitted sweaters to snuggle up too. Big rings. Wrist cuffs. Sexy necklaces ~ not the hippie dippie kind. A great fitting vintage jacket. Light morning-after facial hair. Messy, layered hair. Don't be shy with your hair product at night. Sneakers, boots and a nice pair of Fluevog's (on First Avenue) or old-school Creepers. Economic Stress Relievers:
